About Gardens North East
Gardens North East is a guide to making, mending and enjoying gardens in the North East of England, from Northumberland to Teesside.
Why a North East guide
Most gardening advice is written for gentler climates. Here we have heavy clay, salt wind on the coast, cold springs inland, winter gales and a building boom that hands thousands of people a bare new-build plot. Our guides start from those conditions.
We cover practical projects (lawns, fences, decks, garden rooms and soil), seasonal timing, and places worth visiting for ideas or simply a good day out. The directory brings together gardens, parks, nurseries, tree surgeons, wildlife groups and allotment societies across the region.
How we write
We write in plain English and stick to what we can check. Where rules matter, such as planning limits for fences and garden rooms, we link to the official source and say when we checked it. We do not publish star ratings, invented statistics or reviews we cannot verify. If you spot something wrong, please tell us.
How the site is paid for
Some listings may be sponsored.
We also offer advertising space to local businesses that fit the guide. Adverts are clearly labelled and kept separate from the writing. Most directory listings are free, and inclusion never depends on a business linking to us or paying. Read how we list businesses for the detail.
Get involved
We would like to hear from people creating gardens on new estates for our New Build Gardens series: send us your story. Suggestions for the directory and corrections are always welcome through the contact page.
