Gardens to visit in the North East
Historic estates, walled gardens, a botanic garden, a physic garden and private gardens that open for charity. Opening days and prices change through the year, so check each garden's own page before you go.
Planning a visit
Northumberland has the greatest concentration of big gardens, from Alnwick and Cragside in the north to Belsay and Wallington closer to Newcastle. County Durham has Raby, the Bowes Museum gardens, Crook Hall and the University's botanic garden. In Tyne and Wear, Gibside and Washington Old Hall are easy trips from the cities.
Our heritage gardens by season guide suggests the best time of year for each.
